The Milton Public Library is running a contest where kids can design a book cover.
Children aged 12 and under are tasked with using any materials they have around the house to recreate the cover of their favourite kids book.
Bekah Crozier is the Children’s Services Librarian for the MPL.
She talks about why they decided to hold this contest.
The Milton Public Library says on their website that, “readers tend to judge a book by its cover.” They then ask if any of the contestants have a favourite that they’d want to use for the contest.
Crozier adds that it’s really important to keep children active with their creativity.
The Milton Public Library has been holding a lot of contests to stay connected with their younger patrons. That includes the recently finished ‘Reader Lives Here’ contest that asked for younger residents to colour in a template provided by the MPL and place the coloured picture into the window of their home.
Crozier says the contests have been a great way to stay connected.
The Manager of Public Service for the MPL, Lee Puddephatt, spoke on how the library is working to ensure they are ready to reopen, whenever that may happen.
She reminds residents that you can still utilize their curbside collection program that has been running for nearly two months. The service is available for patrons to be able to obtain physical copies of books from the Milton Public Library.
Puddephatt recommends that patrons look into signing up for the MPL’s eNewsletter that is expected to be released by the end of next week. She says that’d be the best way to know what’s really going on at your local library.
The Book Cover contest runs until Monday, July 27th.
A winner will be chosen and will receive a $25 Indigo e-gift card.
