July 3rd marks the first day of the Dog Days of Summer.
It falls perfectly in-line with a continued Heat Warning in Halton that began earlier this week.
Yesterday, we reported how Environment Canada is expecting the Heat Warning to last through to Sunday. They are now suggesting that it could last past Sunday, and cover most of next week.
A Heat Warning falls into effect when the temperature high of at least three consecutive days reaches 30 degrees celsius.
Remember: extreme heat affects everyone.
Environment Canada warns that, “the risks are greater for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and people working or exercising outdoors. Never leave people or pets inside a parked vehicle. Watch for the symptoms of heat illness: dizziness/fainting; nausea/vomiting; rapid breathing and heartbeat; extreme thirst; decreased urination with unusually dark urine.”
The Town of Milton says Town cooling centres remain closed due to COVID-19. They ask residents to take necessary precautions: limit outdoor activity, wear loose fitted clothing, and stay hydrated.
