The Halton Down Syndrome Association held their annual walk virtually this year.
The organization declared it a success, with over 40 teams registered for the event
One of the Event Coordinators is Rebecca Hurren. She is proud of the online turnout.
Participants walked for 21-minutes to represent trisomy 21.
With #HDSAWalk2020, people were able to show off their blue and yellow costumes. The HDSA also asked people to take part in sidewalk art by using chalk to colour the pavement, as well as film TikTok videos to show their spirit.
Hurren adds that participants were positive throughout the day.
There was a virtual dance party held for the participants in the Zoom call. An award ceremony was held at the end of the event.
The HDSA were wishing to make their annual walk a global event with the move to online.
Hurren says they accomplished that, getting people from the United States and even Portugal to donate.
With all of the success this year, they may just keep the online aspect for next year when the event (hopefully) is held at the Milton Fairgrounds again.
At the time of writing, the HDSA has raised just under $89,000. Their goal this year was to raise $90,000.
You can still donate and take part in the silent auction, where they have items like an Apple Watch and Amazon Alexa speakers up for bidding.
