The Halton Climate Collective is committed to being leaders in local regional efforts towards a low carbon, climate resilient community.
Executive Director of the Halton Environmental Network, Lisa Kohler, tells us about the Halton Climate Collective.
The Halton Climate Collective is actively involved in discussions with communities about climate action and what residents want to see in their community.
Kohler adds that they work closely with our youth through their Generation Green project.
Last November, they held a conference at Sheridan College where they invited over 200 youth across Halton to learn how to track, measure, and mitigate their greenhouse gas emissions, giving them a tool kit and access to webinars to ensure they are on track.
This March they were supposed to hold another conference where youth were going to be able to share their progress.
That conference was held virtually to accomodate for COVID-19 and the Halton Climate Collective says those students reduced over 20 tonnes just with their collective action since November.
Kohler talks about upcoming events which includes eventually launching their next HCC Reads campaign, which will include a chat with the author about climate, the effects climate is having on the north, and how southern Canada can help in mitigating those effects.
Kohler shares what they have been doing to keep people focused on climate action while at home.

Right now they are spotlighting the students from their Generation Green project and the hard work they’ve done to contribute to climate action.
The Halton Environmental Network is the backbone agency of the Halton Climate Collective.
They do a lot of work that is separate from the Halton Climate Collective, which includes their Halton Food Programs, a program centred around encouraging residents to start their own gardens and grow their own foods to help support a healthy environment, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and reducing your trips to the grocery store.
