Sustainable Milton is a local group focused on being an ally to our Town in making us a more sustainable community through action and engagement.
They are a fairly young group, having formed shortly after budget deliberations that resulted in the Town approving of a climate plan but holding off temporarily on hiring a sustainability manager.
Wanting action a group of originally 10 individuals began talking over email and social media about making a difference.
In a few short months, this group has grown into Sustainable Milton, which branches out over six committees and is expansive in their reach in getting the community actively engaged in making a difference in our climate’s future.
Mishal Naseer with Sustainable Milton, talks about the recent activities they’ve taken part in.
They also recently spoke in support of the Town’s climate change work plan that was approved during council’s last meeting.
During that meeting there was the discussion of possibly taking on a group like Sustainable Milton to help them reach their goals.
Wendy Roberts, with Sustainable Milton, shares how they’d feel about taking on such a role.
Roberts talks more about upcoming initiatives they’re working on.
Sustainable Milton has drafted their bylaws and has completed forming their mission statement which they will discuss during a meeting at the end of May – early June.
They will also be working towards voting in their board of directors. While this will be done over a video conference call, they will make this information to the general public on their social media.
Roberts encourages Miltonians not to be overwhelmed in creating change.
