As the numbers continue to grow in Nova Scotia, and a country mourns for the lives that were lost, locally in Milton many have connections to those out east.
Former Milton MP Lisa Raitt grew up in Sydney, Nova Scotia, three hours from the township of Portapique and four hours from Enfield where the shooting ended.
Now in Milton, she has a message to those back east.
Police have updated the death toll of the country’s worst mass shooting to 22, as more victims from the gun rampage were publicly identified. They have also provided the location of the victims from across the province – Portapique, Wentworth, Debert, Shubenacadie, and Enfield.
Raitt says that she reached out to family members out east, but had to take a step back.
She adds that the impact of this tragedy won’t be forgotten anytime soon.
Raitt also admits that, right now, it’s a dark time.
Finally, Raitt wanted to thank those who reached out to her for support.
Many of you have opened your hearts online & shared your memories & wishes for families. You are honouring those we lost, in a beautiful way. We have set up an online book of condolences: https://t.co/XKOroRiOOT. I signed & encourage all of you to as well. https://t.co/3ZjYwKCRTv
