
Employers may be dealing with missing employees shortly.
The outbreak of COVID-19 has put a spotlight on sick days for employees because a 14-day quarantine period could be necessary for some people.
While you may think that it’s okay to come into work, Andrew Haber, a labour lawyer in Milton, says that employers have to protect other employees’ rights because of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
Employees are entitled to up to three sick leave days per year once they have worked for an employer for at least two consecutive weeks.
Haber advises employers who may have employees who are sick.
Haber says there are resources available to ensure that you don’t miss out on income while sick.
Ottawa introduced a billion-dollar package Wednesday aimed at helping the country’s economy and health-care system during the novel coronavirus outbreak.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau made the announcement, while also pointing out that the situation could get worse.
In the meantime, Halton Region Health has said that they recommend that the best way to prevent catching and spreading it includes; stay home when ill, cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue or sleeve and wash hands with soap and water or with alcohol-based hand rub.
There has been one confirmed case of COVID-19 in Halton.
