The Town of Milton has voted in favour of authorizing Regional council in sending a letter to the federal government stating that they do not support the CN intermodal hub.
The motion was passed in a unanimous recorded vote at council on Monday night.
Regional Councillor for Ward 4, Zeeshan Hamid, explains that they are not saying no to CN nor a hub, they are saying no to three things.
Councillor Hamid says that there has been a lot of confusion as to what the region and Town council are saying no to.
Councillor Kristina Tesser Derksen talks about the decision making process.
Regional Councillor for Ward 3, Mike Cluett, reiterates that this is not an anti-intermodal gesture.
Town Councillor for Ward 4, Sameera Ali adds despite the idea that this project would take trucks off the road, it would just simply add more.
A copy of the motion and the presentation that will be made to Regional Council will be sent to local municipalities, Conservation Halton, Halton’s MPs and MPPs, the Federation of Canadian Municipalities, the Association of Municipalities of Ontario, the Premier, the Ontario Ministry of Affairs and Housing, and the attorney general of Ontario for their information.
