
Halton Regional Council has approved Halton’s 2020 budget and business plan.
Regional Chair Carr says that the budget, “outlines how they are continuing to keep property tax increases low while investing in programs that help residents and businesses in our community.”
The 2020 budget will keep property tax increases at or below the rate of inflation with a 1.7% property tax increase for Regional Services.
When combined with the Halton Regional Police’s 2.5% tax increase, the overall Regional property tax increase is 2.0%.
The budget includes a utility rate increase of 3.3 % for water and wastewater services.
Here is a breakdown of Halton’s 2019-2022 strategic business plan.
$7.3 million dollars will be spent in water and wastewater infrastructure, supporting the water and wastewater state-of-good-repair capital program.
$1.9 million dollars will be put towards road repair and maintenance as well as the operation of the Regional Advanced Traffic Management System.
$1.5 million dollars will be invested in services for senior. This will allow them to maintain their service levels and strengthen resident care.
$1.3 million dollars will be put towards waste management.
$1.2 million dollars will help support land acquisition regarding the Burlington Beach Waterfront Master Plan.
$1 million dollars will be invested in paramedic services in response to an increase in call volume and to let them maintain their service levels.
$0.6 million will be put towards employment and social services to strengthen the Ontario Works program.
$0.3 million will go to the Halton Community Investment Fund to increase the funding and support of programs focused on the health,safety and well-being of Halton residents.
