2020 is coming up fast and we got local dignitaries and organizations to reflect on the year that was and to share goals for the new year.
Town councillor, John Challinor, says a standout moment for him this year was when council supported his motion to ask staff to look at a 2020 budget that would come in between 3 and 5 per cent.
He explains why.
Challinor hopes that in the new year council will have a tighter rein on the Town’s finances.
Adding that it’s going to be important that they manage the Town’s finances because we can’t afford to fall behind as a growing municipality.
Challinor’s first goal for 2020 is to make good progress on a new official plan for the community, as the Town hasn’t had one since 1997.
He lists other goals.
He adds that in 2021 he thinks they will get closer to a budget that is closer to the rate of inflation as they have been making strides towards that in the last 12 months.
Challinor’s final goal is to strengthen the Town’s senior management team with the hiring of a new CAO and other senior managers.
He has a message for residents for the year ahead.
Some of Challinor’s goals for the new year are to develop a new official plan for the community, complete and implement a core services review, implement a financially sustainable budget and strengthen the Town’s senior management team with the hiring of a new CAO and other senior managers.
