
The Halton Police have laid charges related to the death of a Maplehurst Correctional Complex inmate in May.
On May 7th, the Halton police responded to a call about six inmates who had overdosed.
All six were taken to hospital. Five survived and one died.
The inmate who died had overdosed on fentanyl and carfentanil.
After a long investigation, an inmate at Maplehurst, 30-year old Michael Fournier, has been arrested and charged for his role in the death.
Fournier appeared in a Milton court on November 5th.
His next appearance will be on November 14th.
The investigation is ongoing.
Homicide detectives from the Halton Regional Police Service, the coroner, forensic pathology, and the centre of forensic sciences were all involved in the investigation.
Michael Fournier was charged with manslaughter, criminal negligence causing death, and trafficking of a schedule I substance.
