
The Halton Police and the Halton Regional Health Department are warning residents about counterfeit oxycodone pills containing fentanyl that are circulating in the GTA.
The pills are hard to identify because they look very similar to Oxycocet (Oxycodone) pills.
Fentanyl in these counterfeit pills increase the risk of overdose.
Fentanyl was present in 75% of opioid related deaths in the Halton Region last year.
The Halton Police remind the public that an overdose is a medical emergency.
These are the signs:
- Difficulty walking, talking, or staying awake.
- Blue lips or nails.
- Very small pupils.
- Cold and clammy skin.
- Dizziness and confusion.
- Extreme drowsiness.
- Choking, gurgling or snoring sounds.
- Slow, weak or no breathing.
- Inability to wake up, even when shaken or shouted at
More tips on overdoses include:
- Don’t leave the scene, call 9-1-1.
- Carry Naloxone.
- Never use alone.
- Go Slow- the Halton Police explain that street drugs are unpredictable as any drug can be cut with or cotaminated by agents in other drugs. Very small amounts of those contaminants can be harmful or even fatal. They ask that you only use small amounts of a drug first to check its strength.
