Milton’s budget call report reveals that in 2020, Milton will have a budget pressure that will result in a tax increase to 9.2% in order to maintain current service levels.
At their most recent meeting, councillors struggled to wrap their head around the increase.
Mayor Gordon Krantz says that he will not be supporting anything near 9.2%.
Krantz adds that we won’t see great cuts in services.
Adding that closing down the senior centre, “ain’t gonna happen.”
Councillor Sameera Ali was concerned by the proposed increase.
Ali reflects on how the report asks staff to minimize service level increases for 2020.
Ali says that staff should determine these levels as they feel and council will then debate over what is most important.
Councillor Rick Malboeuf appreciates staff’s input and work but is not in support of the increase.
Malboeuf looks forward to hearing council’s thoughts and their justifications to what needs to be done.
