Sexual harassment in the workplace will be addressed thanks to some federal funding.
The Minister of Justice and the Attorney General of Canada, David Lametti, was at Venture13 in Cobourg last week (July 23) to make the announcement.
He tells us more.
Lametti, says bringing an end to sexual harassment in the workplace is crucial.
He says it’s all about helping victims and preventing others from becoming a victim of sexual harassment in the workplace.
This $3,747,000 will be handed out over five years.
The announcement is a chunk of the $50 million over five years outlined in the Liberal’s 2018 budget to address sexual harassment.
He says that in 2017, 19% of women and 13% of men reported sexual harassment in the workplace, while 25% of women were targeted by more than one person, typically a supervisor.
He adds that too many people experience this harassment, and it needs to be eradicated from every workforce.
