Local protesting group ACTION Milton held an information meeting last night (Wednesday, July 24th) at Milton’s Hitherfield Private School.
The group is working to stop any potential work done on the Campbellville Quarry.
They say the work will have many harmful effects on the community and residents including polluting the local air and water, as well as creating lots of noise and debris.
Roughly 100 people attended the meeting with many local dignitaries in attendance, including Milton MPP Parm Gill.
He told the audience that he has written a letter to be sent to Provincial Minister of the Environment, Jeff Yurek, asking him to perform an Environmental Assessment.
Also in attendance for the ACTION Milton information meeting last night was Milton Mayor Gordon Krantz.
He says the Town of Milton would not benefit from the Quarry in any way, including financially.
Technical committee member Gary Williams worked on how the Campbellville Quarry could affect the local traffic and water.
He says among the many issues could be an E. coli outbreak.
Williams compared the situation to the recent boil water advisory in December.
Greg Sweetnam, Executive Vice President with James Dick Construction Limited says that an Environmental Assessment isn’t necessary.
ACTION Milton is holding a Garage Sale and Outreach Meetings on Monday, July 29th at the Nassagaweya Tennis Centre and Community Hall.
They will start at 7:00p.m..
The group is also looking to hold another information meeting in the fall.
