Residents are still adjusting to the Amber Alert system.
In 2018, all Canadian cellphones became equipped with the mandatory message system.
Since then, there have been many complaints… saying they are very disruptive.
Constable Ryan Anderson with Halton Police explains why the Amber Alerts are necessary.
Constable Anderson adds that residents who are sleeping during the Amber Alert aren’t required to look for the abducted child.
He says the Alert is meant to alarm anyone on the roads to keep an eye out.
Anderson ends by saying it’d be better if the Alerts went out in the afternoon, but they’re at the mercy of when an abduction happens.
Anderson says the majority of residents are starting to adapt to the Alert.
Constable Anderson adds the most recent Amber Alert only had one person in Halton calling 9-1-1 to complain.
That number is a decrease from the first incident earlier this year.
