At Monday June 24th’s council meeting, Milton Transit presented to council their 2019-2023 service review and master plan update.
They made a number of recommendations in order to increase ridership including increasing the amount of service they provide north of Steeles so that riders have access throughout the day.
Tim Rosenberger, A WSP representative, who partnered with Milton Transit to produce the recommendations, says that the change would create a larger, high frequency bus network for Milton.
A service like this or providing cross boundary service would allow businesses the ability to re-locate to the Milton area.
Both would provide a connection for businesses such as DSV Solutions to relocate to Milton.
DSV Solutions has broken ground on a 1.1 million square foot facility that will relocate their 800 employees from Brampton to Milton.
Their general manager, Gary Peters, is encouraging staff to take this recommendation into consideration.
Their new Milton building will be replacing their Brampton location.
They are building around Fifth Line and Derry Road.
President and CEO of the Milton Chamber of Commerce, Scott McCammon, was there to support the idea.
He says that the biggest issue employers face is the recruitment of employees.
McCammon points out that neighbouring communities like Brampton and Mississauga are the recruiting grounds for Milton employees.
He adds that employees will depend on this line, making it one of the reasons why this line would be one of the busiest in all of Milton.
This route would allow Milton employers the ability to hire more people who don’t have their own cars and would provide a connection to Mississauga and Brampton Transit through the Lisgar Go Station.
Regional Councillor, Mike Cluett, is in support of the recommendations.
Cluett reminds people that these recommendations are being taken into consideration.
Decisions will not be made until towards the end of the year when they determine if it fits within their budget.
