A driver is facing charges after a heavily overloaded pickup truck was spotted travelling toward downtown Barrie last week.
According to Barrie Police, an off-duty officer spotted the pickup truck on Tuesday, October 27th, carrying an extremely heavy load of cement bags in the truck bed.
The weight of the load made it difficult for the vehicle to maintain its lane, while the rear tires were considerably bulged and the tire sidewalls were rubbing against the pavement.
Officers conducted a traffic stop along Blake Street shortly after 11:00 a.m. and spoke with the driver about concerns that the tires could blow out.
As the driver was only minutes away from his destination, officers safely escorted the vehicle to ensure it could reach its destination.
The 45-year-old man was charged with:
- Operate unsafe vehicle
- Improper tires
Police remind motorists to understand their vehicle’s weight limits before hauling heavy loads, noting that overloaded vehicles can affect steering, handling and braking, putting everyone on the road at risk.
