Milton Public Library's Beaty branch (2021)
The Milton Public Library is preparing for renovations at Beaty Branch.
The project will take place in phases beginning this fall and continuing into early 2027. A Innovation Hive will provide a dedicated space for creativity, hands-on making and technology learning, with planned equipment including 3D printers, laser cutting technology, sewing and embroidery machines, a vinyl printer and cutter, an audio sound booth, Mac computers with editing software and a large-format printer.
A soft opening for the Innovation Hive is planned for March, with operating hours and the official opening date to be announced.
The Children’s area will also receive new flooring, expanded collection space, and new activity stations designed to support families in connecting, learning and exploring together. The existing Children’s area will close after Saturday, October 17th, with a reduced Children’s collection relocated elsewhere in the branch during construction.
The renewed Children’s area is scheduled to reopen Wednesday, February 3rd.
“The Beaty renovation is an opportunity to create new ways for our community to learn, make and explore,” says the MPL in a release. “The Innovation Hive will expand access to creative technologies, while the renewed Children’s area will provide an improved space for children and families. We appreciate our patrons’ patience as we complete this work and look forward to welcoming the community into these new spaces.”
Beaty Branch will also be fully closed for regular library services from Tuesday, October 27th through Tuesday, November 10th, while crews install a protective wall and complete major demolition work.
During the closure, patrons can access full library services and return materials at Main Library, located at 1010 Main Street East, or Sherwood Branch, located at 6355 Main Street West. MPL’s digital collections and online services will remain available.
The branch will reopen with limited services Wednesday, November 11th. Customer service, most of the collection, printing, limited study and work space, computers and Wi-Fi will be available. The Quiet Study Room, Group Study Room, programming and Children’s Activity Area will remain unavailable while construction continues.
