We’re coming up to the 2026 Municipal Election here in Milton.
INDIE FM has reached out to all ten mayoral candidates for Milton to discuss their platforms and some key topics affecting residents.
Each candidate will be asked the same questions, and the interviews are being done on a first-come, first-served basis.
Here is our interview with the incumbent mayor, Gord Krantz.
Q: So, this one will be a little different compared to the others just because you are the incumbent mayor. You’ve also been the mayor for four decades. But, regardless, can you provide Miltonians with a quick breakdown, an elevator pitch, on why they should re-elect you?
Q: No one knows more about the growth of Milton as you. You and Milton’s Council recently approved the Official Plan that will see it continue to grow for the next 25 years. Where do you stand on Milton’s continued growth, and what is your plan for the next four years regarding said growth, when considering the Official Plan you just passed?
Q: Let’s piggyback off the growth aspect and talk about job creation. There’s a narrative that Milton is used as a bedroom community: where people live here but work elsewhere in the GTA. If you are re-elected, what is your plan to help improve job creation for Milton?
Q: You were in charge here during the pandemic, so you will remember how “support local” blew up as an ideal for Miltonians and local businesses. How would you help local businesses should you be re-elected as mayor?
Q: Every election, no matter which level of government it is, seems to have these hot topics. One of the big ones this time around is artificial intelligence and the supposed need of data centres. You and Council even recently addressed them at a meeting at the end of the term. Where do you stand on the possibility of having one or multiple data centres in Milton, when considering the impacts they would have on the community and environment?
Q: You’ve had a lot of experience dealing with municipal budgets. The 2027 Town Budget will be one of the first things Town staff and the next Council will be working on following the election. How are you planning to provide services for Miltonians while keeping the taxes low for residents?
Q: Is there anything else you’d like to share with Miltonians before I let you go?
