A new 192-resident long-term care home has officially opened in Milton.
The Ontario government is celebrating the grand opening of The Village of Ridgeview Court, operated by Schlegel Villages Inc. The project received support through the province’s construction funding subsidy top-up.
The three-storey home is organized into six “resident home areas,” each designed for up to 32 residents and featuring its own dining and activity areas, lounges and bedrooms. All rooms are private.
The home also includes a “main street” common area for programming, visitors and community engagement, along with a library, spiritual centre, café, community centre and hair salon.
Premier Doug Ford says the opening will provide additional access to long-term care for Milton residents.
“Our government is investing over $236 billion in our plan to build hospitals, long-term care, roads, schools and other critical infrastructure so we can create good-paying jobs, protect workers and connect families to the high-quality care that they deserve,” says Premier Doug Ford. “Today’s grand opening means an additional 192 residents in Milton will have access to a world-class long-term care home for decades to come.”
Construction of the project supported more than 250 local construction jobs, while the newly opened home will support approximately 200 permanent positions, including roles in nursing, personal support work, nutrition services, programming and administration.
“The opening of the new Village of Ridgeview Court marks a major milestone in our government’s plan to protect residents and expand the availability of high-quality health care across the province,” says Natalia Kusendova-Bashta, Minister of Long-Term Care. “Now that construction is complete, 192 residents in Milton have a safe and modern place to call home.”
The Village of Ridgeview Court is part of a multi-phase development, with future plans including seniors’ care, accommodations and outreach programs.
Zee Hamid, MPP for Milton, says the new home will provide local seniors with access to care close to their families.
“Ontarians built the communities we call home today, and they deserve safe, modern and comfortable places to live. The opening of The Village of Ridgeview Court is a major win for Milton families, ensuring local residents receive the high-quality, compassionate care they deserve right here in our community, close to their loved ones. Our government is proud to deliver on our commitment to expand access to care and build a stronger, more supportive future for Milton.”
As of July, the province says 165 long-term care projects representing 26,421 new and redeveloped spaces have been completed, are under construction or have received ministry approval to begin construction. The province’s long-term care plan focuses on staffing and care, quality and enforcement, modern homes, and connecting seniors with services.
