The Halton District School Board (HDSB) is preparing to launch a new regional sports program designed to combine academic studies with high-level athletic development for competitive student-athletes across Ontario.
The Academy for Athletic Performance and Excellence (APEX) is set to launch in September 2027 at the HDSB’s new Oakville Secondary School at 4020 Sixth Line in Oakville. The program is open to eligible secondary students from across Ontario.
APEX is designed to provide an integrated academic and athletic pathway for student-athletes, particularly those competing at provincial or national levels. The program will incorporate sport science, performance technology and data analytics into the curriculum, while also preparing students for post-secondary opportunities and careers in the Canadian sports industry.
Students will have access to athletic facilities at the new campus, including three gymnasiums, a fitness and weight room, a practice field and a domed turf field.
Families and prospective students will have two opportunities this fall to learn more about APEX and the new Oakville school.
The HDSB Secondary School Open House takes place Saturday, September 26th, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Craig Kielburger Secondary School in Milton. Representatives will be available to answer questions about the new school and APEX. For more information about the open house, click here.
An APEX Virtual Livestream is scheduled for Monday, October 26th, providing prospective students and families with an online information session about the program. The livestream link will be posted on the HDSB APEX webpage by mid-October.
Applications for the inaugural APEX program, for students entering Grades 9 and 10, open October 30th. Interested students and families from across Ontario can learn more about the program and submit applications here.
