The Helson Gallery in Georgetown is inviting visitors to explore imaginative wire sculptures and interactive artwork as part of its upcoming exhibition, Twisted Wire: The Art of Jim Paterson.
The exhibition opened today. It runs until November 8th and features intricate works by Jim Paterson, transforming wire into sculptures that tell unique stories and encourage curiosity.
Several of the sculptures can be gently turned, allowing visitors to see different perspectives and experience aspects of the artwork through motion.
“Jim Paterson’s remarkable wire sculptures demonstrate how creativity can transform everyday materials into extraordinary works of art,” says Mayor Halton Hills Mayor Ann Lawlor. “I invite residents and visitors alike to experience this engaging exhibition, meet the artist, and take part in the hands-on workshop opportunities that celebrate imagination, storytelling, and lifelong learning in our community.”
The public can meet Paterson and learn more about his artistic process during the exhibition’s opening reception on Thursday, September 24th, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Helson Gallery.
A free, hands-on wire art workshop will also be held Saturday, October 3rd, in partnership with Halton Hills Public Library. The Always Imagine Wire Art Workshop will give participants of different ages an opportunity to explore storytelling and creative expression through wire art.
The day begins with Storytime at 10:00 a.m. in the Helson Gallery, where Paterson will read from his picture book Saturday Morning and invite participants to interact with his sculpture The Storytelling Machine.
Two workshop sessions will follow, led by Jim and Lynn Paterson. The first runs from 10:30 a.m. to noon for ages 7 to 12, while the second runs from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. for youth and adults ages 13 and older. Advance registration is required.
Visitors to the Cultural Centre can also view Elements in the Upper and Lower Sisnett Lobby until September 27th. Presented by Credit Valley Artisans, the exhibition explores Earth, Water, Air and Fire through fibre art, paintings, pottery, sculpture and stained glass.
The Helson Gallery is located inside the Halton Hills Public Library and Cultural Centre at 9 Church Street in Georgetown. It is open Wednesday to Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
