Two men are facing drug trafficking charges after a joint police investigation resulted in the seizure of an estimated $5 million worth of cocaine and methamphetamine.
The Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) and Waterloo Regional Police Service launched a joint investigation, known as Project Jester, earlier this year to target a network allegedly involved in importing and distributing illicit drugs across the Greater Toronto Area.
Police said the investigation led to a traffic stop on March 27th, where 36-year-old Taleb Saleh of Mississauga was allegedly found with a large quantity of cocaine while travelling toward Quebec. A second traffic stop on May 7th in Brampton resulted in the arrest of 33-year-old Sukhveer Birring, and the execution of a search warrant at a commercial building used for drug processing and packaging.
Investigators seized 20 kilograms of cocaine and 273 kilograms of methamphetamine, with an estimated combined street value of $5 million.
The HRPS are calling this the largest methamphetamine seizure in their history.
Saleh is charged with:
- Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
Birring is charged with:
- Trafficking – Cocaine
- Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
- Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking – Methamphetamine (2 Counts)
Both men were held in custody pending bail hearings in Milton.
