The Town of Milton is asking residents, businesses, and community groups to help shape its 2027 budget by sharing their priorities through a new public engagement campaign.
Community members can provide feedback as officials begin developing the 2027 Capital and Operating Budget, which funds municipal programs, services, infrastructure, and community investments. The budget will also be informed by previously approved Town studies, master plans, and Council priorities.
Feedback submitted by August 21st will be included in a Budget Call Report presented to Council on September 14th, outlining anticipated budget pressures. Comments received after August 21st will still be shared with Council before it considers the budget in January.
The Town has outlined the following timeline for the 2027 budget process:
- July-August 2026: Public engagement on budget priorities
- September 2026: Budget pressures presented to Council
- November 2026: Budget Reference Document released
- December 2026: Council budget workshop
- January 2027: Mayor’s Budget released, followed by Council consideration and final approval
According to the Town, the annual budget supports Council’s 2023-2027 Strategic Plan by balancing available resources with community priorities.
The capital budget funds major infrastructure projects, including roads, stormwater systems, parks, facilities, and other municipal assets. Funding comes from reserves, development charges, grants, debt, and other revenue sources.
The operating budget covers the day-to-day delivery of municipal services, including winter road maintenance, grass cutting, recreation programs, fire services, and transit. It is funded through property taxes, user fees, and other revenue sources.
The Town also notes that municipal property tax bills include the Town of Milton’s share, as well as taxes collected on behalf of Halton Region and the Province for school boards.
