Ten graduating students from the Halton Catholic District School Board (HCDSB) have been recognized with the 2026 Governor General’s Bronze Medal.
This prize is awarded annually to the graduating student with the highest academic average at each secondary school.
The Governor General’s Bronze Medal recognizes outstanding academic achievement. Recipients are selected based on their final marks in all Grade 11 and Grade 12 courses listed on their official Ministry of Education transcript.
This year’s recipients are:
- Assumption Catholic Secondary School (Burlington): Sofia Brank – 98.94%
- Bishop P.F. Reding Catholic Secondary School (Milton): Louis James Low – 99.13%
- Christ the King Catholic Secondary School (Georgetown): Maverick Felice – 97.57%
- Corpus Christi Catholic Secondary School (Burlington): Avery Goulet – 97.47%
- Holy Trinity Catholic Secondary School (Oakville): Marissa Cabral – 98.60%
- St. Francis Xavier Catholic Secondary School (Milton): Tereza Raposo – 97.65%
- St. Kateri Tekakwitha Catholic Secondary School (Milton): Maxx Witlox – 95.65%
- Notre Dame Catholic Secondary School (Burlington): Mica Butt – 96.53%
- St. Ignatius of Loyola Catholic Secondary School (Oakville): James Edward York – 96.50%
- St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Secondary School (Oakville): Milton Dai – 98.26%
“The recipients of this year’s Governor General’s Award have displayed exceptional academic achievement and a strong commitment to learning,” says John Klein, Chief Executive Officer and Chief Education Officer. “We are proud to congratulate them on this remarkable honour and wish them every success as they continue to discover their God-given potential and grow in knowledge, faith, and purpose.”
The Governor General’s Academic Medals have recognized student achievement across Canada for nearly 150 years. The awards were established in 1873 by Lord Dufferin, Canada’s third Governor General after Confederation, to encourage academic excellence nationwide.
