The Halton Agricultural Society is inviting the community to celebrate Canada Day with a full day of family-friendly activities at the Milton Fairgrounds.
The annual celebration will run from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Milton Fairgrounds, located at 136 Robert Street, and is being hosted by the Halton Agricultural Society in partnership with the Rotary Club of Milton, the Knights of Columbus and Royal Canadian Legion Branch 136. Organizers say the event will feature live entertainment, children’s activities, food vendors, community exhibits and interactive attractions throughout the day.
The day begins with the annual Veterans Breakfast at 9:00 a.m. in Victoria Park. Hosted by the Holy Rosary Knights of Columbus in partnership with Royal Canadian Legion Branch 136, the breakfast will feature pancakes and sausage or peameal on a bun, along with live music from “That Band.” Breakfast will be provided free for veterans and available for purchase by the public.
Fairground gates open at 10:00 a.m., with activities including face painting, henna art, a petting zoo, hands-on exotic animal displays, inflatables, a giant sand hill, Gelly Ball, interactive hockey, lawn games, arts and crafts, tractor and wagon rides, community displays, commercial vendors and live entertainment. A People Mover shuttle will also operate throughout the day until 4:30 p.m.
The main stage entertainment schedule includes performances by Dance Fam at 10:00 a.m., Crash Rhythm Drums at 11:15 a.m., the official opening ceremony at noon, Banghra Dance at 12:30 p.m., Tee Top Poets at 2:00 p.m., Urban Cowboy Line Dancing at 3:00 p.m. and ACME Hi-Fi at 4:00 p.m.
The interactive stage will feature cultural and community performances throughout the day, beginning with the Milton Chinese Association at 10:00 a.m., followed by Aqua Nibii Waawaaskone, South Asian Milton Moms, the spaghetti eating contest at 1:00 p.m., the men’s stroller race at 2:00 p.m., Cheer Sport Sharks at 2:30 p.m., the donut eating contest at 3:00 p.m. and karaoke at 4:00 p.m.
Other scheduled activities include the Canada Day Bike Parade at 11:00 a.m., with registration available on-site, a community cake cutting at 2:30 p.m., and family-friendly competitions including spaghetti and donut eating contests.
A licensed beer garden will operate from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., while local food vendors will be serving a variety of meals, snacks and desserts throughout the event.
Organizers note the event will proceed rain or shine, although some attractions may be affected by weather conditions. Pets are not permitted at the event, with the exception of registered service animals.
The Halton Agricultural Society also announced that the traditional Canada Day fireworks display will not return to the Milton Fairgrounds, citing safety and affordability concerns as the event has outgrown the site. The daytime celebration has been scheduled to conclude early enough to allow visitors to travel safely to other evening festivities.
