Trustees with the Halton District School Board (HDSB) have approved a balanced budget for the 2026-27 school year.
The budget will support more than 64,500 students and 6,500 full-time equivalent staff across 92 elementary schools, 16 secondary schools and five continuing education centres throughout Halton Region.
Board officials say the budget was developed using feedback from students, families, staff and community members and is aligned with the HDSB’s 2024-2028 Multi-Year Strategic Plan.
The board faced a challenging financial environment, beginning with a projected $7.1 million deficit. That shortfall was compounded by declining student enrolment, reduced funding and rising operating costs. To balance the budget, the HDSB identified $16.9 million in savings, efficiencies and new revenue opportunities.
