An unknown man is wanted by the Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) after he fraudulently withdrew more than $35,000 from a victim’s bank account.
The investigation began after the victim was notified by their bank in December that their accounts had been compromised.
Investigators determined that the suspect entered a bank branch and allegedly posed as the victim. He was then able to carry out multiple ATM transactions and e-transfers, withdrawing more than $35,000.
According to police, the bank’s investigation concluded that the victim had been targeted in an identity theft and account takeover scheme. The victim was fully reimbursed for the losses, but investigators have not yet identified the person responsible.
The suspect is described by the HRPS:
- Male
- White
- 30-40 years-old
- red beard
- 6’1″
- 200lbs
- wearing a grey jacket and black tuque
