Visitors to Mountsberg Conservation Area will have a chance to get up close with one of the park’s trained birds of prey through a new Hawk Walk program running this summer.
The private 45-minute experience allows participants to walk alongside a free-flying Harris’s Hawk while learning from Mountsberg’s Raptor Centre staff. During the walk, the hawk may fly near participants, follow along the trail, and potentially land on a perch held by a participant. The experience concludes with an opportunity to take photos with the bird.
The program is designed for small groups of up to two people and is open to participants aged 12 and older. Dogs are not permitted during the experience.
Hawk Walks will be offered on Saturdays and Sundays from June 20th through September 6th, with sessions beginning at 9:30 a.m. The cost is $149 plus HST per group, in addition to regular gate admission fees.
Because the experience takes place outdoors, walks are weather dependent. Conservation Halton says participants will be notified at least 24 hours in advance if a session is cancelled due to inclement weather. Those affected will have the option to reschedule or receive a refund.
Mountsberg Conservation Area is home to the Mountsberg Raptor Centre, which cares for and showcases a variety of birds of prey while offering educational programming for visitors throughout the year.
