The Town of Milton is asking residents to share their thoughts as it reviews and updates its Noise By-law for the first time in more than a decade.
The by-law regulates noise and activities that may interfere with residents’ enjoyment of their homes and neighbourhoods, while also balancing the needs of community events, recreation, construction and other everyday activities.
As part of the review, the Town has launched a public survey. Officials say feedback from residents will help provide a clearer picture of noise concerns across the community and help guide potential changes to the by-law.
The survey asks residents about noise levels in their neighbourhoods, common sources of disturbances and the days and times when noise issues are most disruptive.
Survey results will be used to help inform proposed updates that will eventually be presented to Milton Council for consideration.
Residents who complete the survey by November 13th will also be entered into a draw for a chance to win a set of noise-cancelling headphones, subject to contest rules.
The review comes as Milton continues to experience significant growth. The current Noise By-law was last updated in 2012, before the town’s population and development expanded substantially.
Town staff will also examine the by-law’s exemption process as part of the review. Exemptions are commonly granted for certain activities and events throughout the year, and the Town says it wants to ensure the process remains consistent, transparent and enforceable.
