An investigation that began with a stolen wallet from a vehicle in Oakville has led to multiple arrests and the recovery of dozens of allegedly stolen items, according to the Halton Regional Police Service.
Officers first received a report in late March after a wallet was stolen from a vehicle and the victim’s credit cards were later used fraudulently. Investigators identified Kathleen Rand and Daniel Gignac as the investigation progressed.
Rand was eventually arrested on May 11th. Police say officers found several pieces of stolen identification in her possession at the time of her arrest.
Two days later, investigators executed a Criminal Code search warrant at an Oakville residence where six individuals, including Gignac, were taken into custody. Police say officers recovered methamphetamine and a large quantity of suspected stolen property from the home.
Among the seized items were six e-bikes, gasoline generators, power tools, gift cards and other property believed to be connected to criminal activity.
Rand, 22, of Oakville, is facing multiple charges:
- Theft of Credit Card (2 Counts)
- Unauthorized Use of Credit Card Data (2 Counts)
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime – Under $5000
- Possession of Identity Documents
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime – Over $5000
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime – Over $5000 – Trafficking
- Possession of a Controlled Substance – Methamphetamine
- Failure to Comply with Probation Order
Gignac, 40, of Burlington, is charged with:
- Theft of Credit Card (2 Counts)
- Unauthorized Use of Credit Card Data
Police also charged Kaleb Sciranka, Dennis Costa, Renee Hamilton, Kevin Witts and Michael Tekic with:
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime – Over $5000
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime – Over $5000 – Trafficking
- Possession of a Controlled Substance – Methamphetamine
All accused were held for bail hearings in Milton.
The investigation is ongoing and investigators are in the process of locating the rightful owners of the stolen property.
