More than 10,000 residents across Oakville, Halton Hills and Milton who do not currently have a family doctor are expected to benefit from a new provincial investment aimed at expanding access to primary care.
The province announced $4.1 million in funding through Ontario’s Primary Care Action Plan to support the growth of Interprofessional Primary Care Teams (IPCTs) across Halton. These teams bring together family doctors, nurse practitioners, nurses, social workers and other health professionals to provide coordinated care closer to home.
The initiative will be led through the Connected Care Halton Ontario Health Team in partnership with several local organizations, including the Halton Hills Family Health Team and Prime Care Family Health Team.
Officials say the funding will help expand team-based care, improve access to community supports, strengthen continuity of care and reduce pressure on emergency departments.
“Our government is putting Halton residents first by bringing primary care directly to our doorsteps,” says Zee Hamid, MPP for Milton. “I am incredibly proud that this investment will connect 10,000 more neighbours to the healthcare they deserve, right here in our community.”
Residents who are currently without a family doctor or nurse practitioner are encouraged to register here or call 811 for assistance.
