Current Town Councillor for Milton’s Ward 2, John Challinor II, has announced that he is running for Halton Regional Council in the next municipal election.
He’s seeking to replace current Regional Councillor Rick Malboeuf following Malboeuf’s announcement that he won’t be seeking re-election.
In launching his campaign, Challinor said his focus at the regional level would include ensuring Milton receives equitable regional services as the community continues to grow. He identified housing, policing and public health, along with road, water and sewer infrastructure, as key priorities tied to Milton’s long-term growth plans through 2051.
Challinor highlighted his experience working on regional matters, including his current role as Halton Region’s representative and chair of the Grand River Conservation Authority. He also pointed to previous work on waste management and regional planning initiatives.
The longtime councillor said the next term of council will play a major role in shaping Milton’s future growth, infrastructure and overall quality of life. He added that he plans to continue advocating for measures aimed at improving municipal services while reducing financial pressures on taxpayers.
With announcing this campaign, it guarantees that Milton will have a new Town Councillor for Ward 2, as Challinor is unable to run for both roles.
The municipal election is set for October 26th.
