The Town of New Tecumseth is inviting residents and media to take part in Earthfest 2026, a week-long celebration focused on sustainability, environmental education, and community action.
Running from April 27th to May 2nd, Earthfest Week will feature a variety of activities across the community, including clean-ups, tree planting initiatives, educational sessions, and family-friendly programming. The week wraps up with a main celebration at Town Hall, bringing together residents to learn and engage in environmental efforts.
“Earthfest is an opportunity for our community to come together and learn practical ways to care for the environment,” says Mayor Richard Norcross. “Small, everyday actions can make a meaningful difference when we take them together.”
One of the highlighted events includes a free screening of Just Eat It: A Food Waste Story on Wednesday, April 29th from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. at the Circle Theatre. The award-winning documentary explores food waste across the supply chain and in households and will be followed by a panel discussion featuring representatives from Second Harvest, Simcoe County Waste Management, and Taqueria el Norte.
The week concludes with the Earthfest Celebration on Saturday, May 2nd from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at New Tecumseth Town Hall. The event will include keynote speakers, interactive demonstrations, a ceremonial tree planting, a repair café, bike programming, an electric vehicle showcase, and a sustainability-focused fair.
Throughout the week, residents are encouraged to adopt one new sustainable habit each day, such as reducing waste, conserving energy, choosing active transportation, or supporting local and sustainable options.
Earthfest reflects the Town’s ongoing commitment to environmental responsibility and building a more sustainable community.
