The Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) is reminding residents about the dangers of impaired driving after responding to more than 140 incidents so far this year.
Between January 1st and April 12th, 2026, officers have attended over 140 impaired driving occurrences that resulted in arrests and charges. That averages out to more than one arrest per day. Police are emphasizing that impaired driving remains a serious criminal offence and continues to pose significant risks to public safety.
Officials are urging residents to plan ahead if they intend to consume drugs or alcohol, suggesting options such as using a designated driver, public transit, ride-sharing services, or staying overnight. They also remind the public that impaired driving is considered a crime in progress.
Police are asking anyone who suspects an impaired driver to call 911 at the earliest safe opportunity as part of ongoing efforts to keep roads safe.
