Nominations for candidates in the Town of Milton’s 2026 Municipal Election are set to open next month.
The nomination period will run from May 1st until August 21st at 2:00 p.m. Individuals interested in running can file for positions including Mayor, Regional Councillor for Wards 1 through 4, Town Councillor for Wards 1 through 4, and school board trustee roles for both the Halton District School Board and Halton Catholic District School Board. Candidates must meet eligibility requirements under the Municipal Elections Act, 1996 and submit a completed nomination form in person to the Office of the Town Clerk before the deadline.
Prospective candidates are encouraged to book an appointment with Town staff to complete the nomination process and can access additional details on qualifications and requirements here. A virtual information session titled “Thinking about running for Council?” will be held Tuesday, April 21st from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., offering an overview of roles, responsibilities, and expectations, and featuring a municipal solicitor and a former elected official.
Voters are also encouraged to ensure their information is up to date through the provincial voters’ list and to review school support designations ahead of the election.
Things are buzzing here in Milton, with Regional Councillor for Ward 4, Sameera Ali, announcing her bid for mayor in December. It was also announced this week that the current Milton Mayor, Gord Krantz, will be looking for re-election this fall. Krantz is the longest serving mayor in Canadian history after first being elected in 1980.
Advance voting is scheduled for October 12th to October 15th, ahead of Election Day on October 26th.
