The Darling Home for Kids
The Darling Home for Kids has launched a new fundraising campaign aimed at closing a $1 million gap to complete a major expansion project in Milton.
The “A Million Reasons to Smile” campaign is a year-long initiative designed to raise the final funds needed for Phase 3 of the organization’s expansion, which has been impacted by rising construction costs and inflation. The Darling Home for Kids, the only organization in Canada offering a continuum of care for medically complex children through out-of-home respite, residential, and hospice services, says the project will add significant therapeutic and residential space to better support families.
Director of Development with The Darling Home, Kate Holmes, says the cost of construction post-pandemic has shot past their expected budget.
Holmes adds that if all goes to plan, the project will be done by the end of the summer.
The campaign builds on the earlier Embrace Campaign, a $7 million initiative that funded core elements of the expansion, including new bedrooms, bathrooms, and specialized care areas, with support from community donors and a matching contribution from Orlando Corporation. The final fundraising push will help furnish the new spaces and allow the facility to open its doors to more families in need.
The Phase 3 expansion is expected to help reduce waitlists for care, providing more children with access to specialized medical support in a home-like environment, while the campaign continues over the next year to reach its $1 million goal.
