The 46th annual Marsh Mash paddling event is set to return to Bradford West Gwillimbury next month, drawing participants from across Ontario.
The long-running event will take place on Saturday, May 9th, welcoming canoeists, kayakers, stand-up paddleboarders, and outrigger paddlers to the Holland Marsh canal, a course known as one of the province’s top canoe racing locations. Marsh Mash features both recreational and competitive divisions, with race distances ranging from five to 28 kilometres, including adult-and-child team options and SUP classes.
The race continues in partnership with organizer Iain Craig and his family, along with the Town’s Recreation and Cultural Services Department, and is sanctioned by the Ontario Marathon Canoe and Kayak Racing Association. It also serves as a World Team Qualifier for the ICF Canoe Marathon World Championships.
“Bradford West Gwillimbury is proud to host Marsh Mash for its 46th year, welcoming paddlers from across Ontario to race along our canal,” says Mayor James Leduc. “Whether you’re an experienced racer or simply enjoy time on the water, everyone is invited to take part in this unique experience on the Holland Marsh.”
Participants must register online in advance, with early bird pricing available until April 22nd and regular registration closing at 8:00 a.m. on May 6th, as no day-of registration will be offered.
It will be held at Sovereign Grace Church, with check-in beginning at 8:00 a.m., an athlete briefing at 9:15 a.m., and the race starting at 10:00 a.m.
