The second round of the OJHL was always going to be a tough one, and the games are only proving that.
Game #1 of the series against the Toronto Patriots took place on Friday, March 20th at the Westwood Arena in Etobicoke. With the Patriots finishing at the top of the standings, they got home ice advantage.
Milton was able to go blow for blow with Toronto at the start of the game. Alec Stewart opened the scoring, giving the Menace an early lead. After Toronto tied it up, Brady Wassink was able to regain the lead. Once again, the Patriots got back on the board to make it 2-2 after 20 minutes of action.
In the second period, Toronto’s offence took control of the game. They managed to score three goals, with Dallys Hibbert getting one back for the Menace. That made the game 5-3 Toronto heading into the second intermission.
The game got out of hand in the third period, with Toronto scoring three more goals. Gavin Sheehan would score late for Milton, but it wasn’t enough to make a dent. Milton lost to Toronto 8-4.
Austin McKillop started in net for the Menace. Through the first two periods, he stopped 20 of 25 shots, giving him an even .800% save percentage and the loss. Hayden Duncan came in relief in the third period, stopping 11 of 14 shots, giving him a .785% save percentage.
Game #2 then took place on Sunday, March 22nd at the Milton Memorial Arena.
This time it was Toronto who scored first. They took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
In the second period, Tristan Tremble was able to tie the game. After Toronto took back the lead, Milton made it even once again with a marker from Dean Deligeorgis. The Patriots then piled on the offence from then on, going up 4-2 before the end of the second.
The third period was uneventful for Milton, going scoreless, and even giving up another goal to the Patriots. Milton would lose once again, 5-2.
The Menace turned to their third netminder in this one. Dylan Durno stopped 34 of 39 shots, giving him an .871% save percentage.
Game #3 will now take place on Tuesday, March 24th at the Westwood Arena in Etobicoke. It starts at 7:15 p.m.
Action will return to the Milton Memorial Arena on Friday, March 27th for Game #4. That one will start at 7:30 p.m. Buy your tickets for any/all home games here.
