A family-friendly event celebrating the importance of water is set to take place at Crawford Lake Conservation Area this weekend.
World Water Day will be held on Sunday, March 22nd from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., featuring hands-on activities, educational opportunities and cultural teachings that highlight the connection between water, land and all living beings. Organizers say the event is designed to encourage learning and reflection on the role water plays in everyday life and the natural world.
From 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Elders and Knowledge Sharers will offer water teachings inside the Deer Clan Longhouse, where visitors can drop in to listen and learn. Presenters include Elder Mary Lou Smoke, Knowledge Sharer Jess Notwell and utríhǫt Catherine Tàmmaro.
The event also coincides with Sweet Water Season at Crawford Lake, allowing visitors to experience both as part of their visit.
