The Milton Menace find themselves down big to the Burlington Cougars after just two games in the first round of the OJHL Playoffs.
Game #1 took place on Friday, March 6th at the Milton Memorial Arena. The Cougars jumped out to a one-goal lead in the first period, and then followed that up with another goal in the second.
Brayden Turley would eventually score for the Menace in the final period, but it seemed almost like the Menace were destined to lose that night. There’s a phrase known as “getting goalied,” and despite getting 56 shots on net, Turley’s marker would be the only one to find the back of the net, making it a 2-1 win for the Cougars.
Austin McKillop was fairly strong himself in net for the Menace. He stopped 23 of 25 shots, giving him a respectable .920% save percentage in the losing effort.
Things didn’t go to plan for the Menace in Game #2 either.
The Menace gave up four goals in the first period, and it got worse from there. All in all, the Menace let in seven goals, and failed to score themselves, losing 7-0.
It was a physical game for the Menace, as they ended up with 50 PIMs, giving the Cougars 17 chances on the man advantage. The one silver lining is that Burlington only capitalized on one of those chances. Though, one could argue that six even-strength goals in a game spent seemingly entirely on special teams isn’t good either.
Austin McKillop started the game for the Menace, letting in three goals on 14 shots. He was then replaced by Hayden Duncan, who stopped 21 of 25 shots.
Game #3 will now take place on Wednesday, February 11th at the Milton Memorial Arena. It’s scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m. Buy your tickets for any/all home games here.
