The Halton District School Board (HDSB) is inviting the community to weigh in on how education dollars are spent as part of its budget planning for the 2026 – 2027 school year.
Parents, guardians, students, staff and community members are encouraged to provide feedback through an online survey, which is open until 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 1st. The input will help guide decisions as the HDSB works through ongoing financial pressures, including declining student enrolment across parts of Halton. Aging neighbourhoods and slower growth in some areas have contributed to lower enrolment, which directly affects funding levels, while the costs of delivering high-quality education continue to rise.
To support transparency, the HDSB hosted a budget information session earlier this week, where staff and community questions were addressed. A recording of the session, along with frequently asked questions and additional background materials, is available here. Community members are encouraged to review the information before completing the survey to help identify priorities for the year ahead.
“We value the engagement and perspectives of our students, staff, families and community members throughout the budget development process,” says Curtis Ennis, Director of Education for the Halton District School Board. “Your feedback is essential in identifying priorities and understanding potential impacts as we make informed, fiscally responsible, transparent and evidence-based decisions about how resources are allocated to support student learning and well-being. Our commitment remains unchanged – students are at the heart of everything we do.”
