The Town of New Tecumseth has received a $48,000 provincial Fire Protection Grant to enhance firefighter safety and emergency preparedness.
The funding, awarded by the Province of Ontario, will be used to purchase 120 certified wildland firefighting coveralls designed to provide increased protection and mobility in high-temperature environments. Town officials say the investment will support frontline firefighters as the community continues to grow and face increased service demands.
Mayor Richard Norcross said the grant will help ensure firefighters have the proper equipment to respond effectively and safely, calling it an investment in readiness and community protection. Fire Chief Dan Heydon added that the new coveralls will improve both safety and flexibility during emergency responses.
Fire protection services in New Tecumseth are currently provided through three stations in Alliston, Beeton and Tottenham, with a second Alliston fire station scheduled to open in late 2026.
