United Way Halton & Hamilton (UWHH) says its Holiday Helping Hand program provided critical financial relief and essential supports to thousands of residents facing hardship during the 2025 holiday season.
The organization says the program distributed roughly $220,000 in direct financial relief this year, supporting more than 5,000 people through 27 community partner agencies across Halton and Hamilton. That total represents a $70,000 increase over last year, reflecting both rising community need and increased donor support. UWHH President and CEO Brad Park said the program is designed to help families facing financial strain from rising costs, food insecurity and housing instability during the holidays.
Holiday Helping Hand was created to respond to increased pressure on families and frontline agencies during the holiday season, when demand often rises while capacity remains limited. Through the program, community members contributed by volunteering, sponsoring families and donating items such as grocery gift cards, toys, hygiene supplies, bedding and clothing. Support was delivered in a dignity-focused way, with items provided unwrapped and ahead of the holidays to allow families to plan and celebrate privately.
This year’s program supported 217 families, representing 706 people, and distributed more than 1,000 essential kits. United Way reports that more than $73,000 worth of toys were donated, along with hundreds of stocking stuffers, and more than 300 volunteers contributed their time through caring shifts and kit drives across the region.
United Way Halton & Hamilton says support is still needed beyond the holiday season, noting that financial and social pressures continue for many households into the new year.
