The Milton Public Library hosted award-winning Cree author David A. Robertson this week for A Day of Conversation with David A. Robertson.
It was held on Monday, November 10th at the FirstOntario Arts Centre Milton, and featured sessions for local students and an evening public talk – where hundreds heard from one of Canada’s leading voices in Indigenous literature.
Robertson spoke about storytelling as a tool for connection, empathy, and reconciliation, emphasizing that “reconciliation is about relationship building… learning about each other… and healing through truth.” He also highlighted the crucial role libraries play, calling them “the foundation of reconciliation” for their ability to share and preserve community stories.
Reflecting on the future, Robertson shared his optimism: “It’s the kids… they’re the hope.”
Milton Public Library CEO Sarah Douglas-Murray said the event embodied the library’s mission to foster “meaningful dialogue rooted in truth, reconciliation, and the shared power of stories to inspire change.”
