The Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) is preparing to host information sessions for families interested in enrolling their children in Grade 1 French Immersion (FI) for the 2026-27 school year.
The FI program is designed to help students achieve a high level of proficiency in French while continuing to excel in English.
Sessions will take place at schools across the county beginning Monday, November 3rd at Hillcrest Public School in Barrie, followed by multiple locations on Tuesday, November 4th, including:
- Cameron Street Public School, 575 Cameron Street, Collingwood
- Ernest Cumberland Elementary School, 160 Eighth Avenue, Alliston
- Ferndale Woods Elementary School, 170 Ferndale Drive South, Barrie
- Goodfellow Public School, 827 9th Line, Innisfil
- Harriett Todd Public School, 11 George Street, Orillia
- Harvest Hills Public School, 400 Crosslands Boulevard, Bradford
- Mundy’s Bay Public School, 340 Sixth Street, Midland
- Oakley Park Public School, 22 Davidson Street, Barrie
- W.H. Day Elementary School, 410 Maplegrove Avenue, Bradford
- Warnica Public School, 211 Warnica Road, Barrie
- Worsley Elementary School, 31- 40th Street South, Wasaga Beach
- W.R. Best Memorial Public School, 2221 Old Barrie Road West, Shanty Bay
Each session begins at 6:00 p.m. Families can use the Home School Locator on the SCDSB website to determine their designated FI school.
Entry into the program is determined through a digitally randomized lottery system, with online applications accepted from Monday, December 1st at 9:00 a.m. until Friday, December 12th at 4:00 p.m. Each site can accept up to 40 Grade 1 students, with final enrolment dependent on available space and staffing.
Transportation will be provided from centralized community bus stops for eligible students outside their designated school’s walk zone, though parents are responsible for drop-off and pick-up at those stops.
