A new chapter in community recreation has begun in Halton Hills, as Mayor Ann Lawlor, members of Town Council, and representatives from Georgetown Slopitch gathered last week to officially open the new multi-purpose building at Trafalgar Sports Park.
The $1.3 million project was developed through a public consultation process with user groups and made possible in part by a $60,000 donation from the Georgetown Slopitch League.
“I’m delighted that we were able to see this project completed with the generous support of our local slopitch league,” says Mayor Lawlor. “This beautiful and functional new amenity will support not only our local activities but ensure we are well positioned to be good hosts when attracting tournament play and other events to our community.”
This new facility is designed to enhance community programming, hosting tournaments, special events, and recreational activities at the park. Visitors will be able to enjoy the new space when Trafalgar Sports Park reopens to the public in April.
Constructed with durable and sustainable materials, the building features glulam beams, concrete block walls, and a standing seam metal roof. It also incorporates energy-efficient design elements, including LED lighting, low-flow fixtures with motion sensors, and strategically placed windows for natural light and ventilation.
Inside, guests will find a fully accessible universal washroom, a multi-purpose meeting room, a kitchenette, and a covered patio area with picnic tables – which is a welcome addition after the hot summer we just experienced.
