The Halton Catholic District School Board (HCDSB) has announced a vacancy for the Trustee position representing Milton Wards 2 and 3, following the resignation of Vice-Chair and Trustee Emma Murphy.
Murphy, who was elected in 2022, officially stepped down at the Regular Board Meeting on Tuesday, September 16th, citing personal matters that require her full attention.
During her tenure, HCDSB says Murphy was recognized as a dedicated advocate for Catholic education, working closely with fellow trustees, staff, and families to support student growth and well-being.
“It has been an honour to support Catholic Education,” she said, noting her pride in the Board’s accomplishments and confidence in its future direction. Board Chair Marvin Duarte also expressed gratitude, highlighting Murphy’s “time, energy, and dedication to supporting students and families in Milton.”
To fill the vacancy, the Board has approved an appointment process through application and interview. Qualified candidates are invited to submit a letter of interest, résumé, and a documented script of their presentation to Director of Education John Klein by 12:00 p.m. on Friday, October 3rd. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to deliver a five-minute presentation and take part in a question period with trustees at a Special Board Meeting on Thursday, October 9th, where the final selection will be made by secret ballot.
To be eligible, candidates must be Roman Catholic, a registered Catholic school supporter, a Canadian citizen at least 18 years of age, and a resident within the HCDSB jurisdiction (Burlington, Milton, Oakville, or Halton Hills). Full eligibility details and submission instructions are available here.
