Milton Fall Fair (2019), taken by Cameron Wilkinson
The Milton Fall Fair is back again this month for its incredible 170th year!
Established back in 1853, and rarely missing a year, the fair will celebrate its theme of ‘A Patchwork in Time’.
Organized by the Halton Agricultural Society, this year’s fair will feature a wide range of competitions and prize categories, including butter tarts, maple syrup, honey, quilts, and youth chocolate chip cookies. Winners will go on to represent Milton at the District Competition in October, with the potential to advance to the Ontario Association of Agricultural Societies Annual Convention in February.
Visitors can expect a packed entertainment schedule across the weekend, including livestock shows, blacksmith demonstrations, dog agility shows, midway rides, tractor pulls, demolition derbies, live music, and cultural performances. Ongoing attractions include the petting zoo, agricultural education tent, exhibit halls, and a wide variety of vendors offering local goods and fair food favorites.
It’s been a tough year for HAS and the Milton Fairgrounds. In April, the decision was made to cancel the annual Canada Day celebrations, with the reasoning being a drop of volunteers, increase in costs, and limited space. It’s worth noting that a similar decision was reached in 2020 prior to the pandemic.
Recently, the gates to the Milton Fairgrounds were closed due to ongoing issues surrounding by-law violations regarding noise, graffiti, traffic, and lighting. The matter was raised at the latest Milton Council meeting, which you can watch here. It’s not believed these issues will affect future events, including the Milton Fall Fair, as well scheduled programs.
Fair organizers extended a special thanks to the Homecraft members, Board of Directors, volunteers, sponsors, and exhibitors who have worked tirelessly to prepare this year’s event. New volunteers are always welcome to join and help carry on this beloved Milton tradition.
The gates open at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, September 26th, kicking off three days of family fun at the Milton Fairgrounds, located at 136 Robert Street in Milton.
